The annual River Clay Fine Arts Festival brings artists from across the country to downtown Decatur on October 24 and 25, 2026, for a weekend built entirely around original work. In addition to the juried art show, festivalgoers are treated to student art exhibits, children’s activities, live art demonstrations, food trucks and a patron hospitality lounge. Representing 16 states, this year’s River Clay Fine Arts Festival welcomes 70+ artists from Alabama and surrounding states as well as Iowa, Wisconsin, Missouri, Texas and Indiana who will be selling original works of art, including ceramics, fiber, glass, jewelry, metalwork, mixed media, paintings, photography, sculptures and wood. In addition to purchasing one-of-a-kind creations, festivalgoers can meet the artists and hear how the work was made. Two artists will also work live on site throughout the weekend. Chandler Hayes, a muralist who helped plan the first River Clay, builds a finished painting with spray paint in a matter of minutes. Sculptor Jamey Grimes of Tuscaloosa turns discarded commercial plastics into layered, suspended forms. Both take questions while they work. Admission charged
